Seva
| "Service brings
you nearer to Me; the flower that is your heart gets fragrance by means of
the Service you do, and so it becomes more acceptable to Me. Love is the

Why Seva? |
"Service in all its forms, all the world over, is primarily
spiritual discipline- mental cleanup! Without the inspiration given
by that attitude, the urge is bound to ebb and grow dry, or, it may
meander into pride and pomp.
Just think for a moment: Are you serving God Or, is God serving
you?…When you offer milk to a hungry child, or a blanket to a
shivering brother on the pavement, you are but placing a gift of God
in a repository of the Divine principle! God serves; He allows you
to claim that you have served! Without His will, no single blade of
grass can quiver in the breeze. Fill every moment with gratitude to
the giver and the recipient of all gifts.
Silence is the speech of the spiritual seeker. If you
lift the hand to serve, to help, to console, to encourage another
man you are lifting it for God, because in every man is God. Be of
service to others, for that is giving yourself to me. For whatever
you give, I will repay you thrice, nay I shall repay you tenfold.
Try me and you will see.
I say to those who know the joy of giving, look back!
Yes, look back and see how each time you felt that nothing but a
miracle could save you, keep you alive, fill your larder, save your
son, stop a disaster - has not that miracle happened? Divine
guidance is always on the side of the giver. Yes, I will give to
those who give of themselves, untold joy and bliss; and what is
more, I will lead them by the hand along those petal strewn paths of
eternal joy."

"When we think of service, we seem to think of work which is lowly
kind of work, usually done by a servant. This kind of association of
ideas, where service is thought of as something lowly, is not
correct.
In the context of service, we should realize that God himself does a
lot of service to the world in many ways. We are familiar with the
concept of an Avatar when God takes birth in human form to
reestablish dharma or put back righteousness in its high place thus
doing service to the world.
The omnipresent Lord, in the form of Krishna served Arjuna as a
Charioteer. Not only this, but after his work as a charioteer was
over for the day, he used to take the tired horses to the river and
wash them. In that manner he was prepared to work even as a cleaner.
At that time, Vyasa ( A great sage ) looked at the Lord
and felt that many great persons did not get the fortune which the
horses had at the divine hands."
